Leigh Smart
Company founder in 1973, Director, Graduate of Hawkesbury Agricultural College. Leigh started his career at Dairy Farmers Co-op in Canberra and was responsible for Laboratories in Goulburn and Albury. He worked for Bega Co-op Ltd and was Quality Manager for Peters Milk Pty Ltd. Leigh has vast experience in servicing the food and beverage industries. Qualified auditor and trainer for ISO9001:2008. In 1995 Leigh was appointed to Standards Australia Committees FT/9 and FT/025; Dairy detergents and Sanitizers and Detergents and Sanitizers for Food Industry. Leigh has had 15 years experience as an accredited Consultant with WorkCover NSW to design and stamp plans for Class 8 and Class 5 Dangerous Goods Stores. In 1999 received recognition as a Senior Food Safety Auditor by QSA and was appointed on their Certification Panel. In 2008 was a member of WorkCover Smart Move Program improving manual tasks in the transport industry. Leigh was appointed to Attorney Generals Department as a representative on their Chemical Risk Assessment Technical Working Group. For a period of 3 years Leigh was a Mentor in the WorkCover “Safe Business is Good Business” program. Leigh was the Chair of the WorkCover Chemical Industry Stakeholders Group. In 2014 Leigh sponsors the ATA Truck Week 2014 event; one of the best promotional displays in Australia. In 2015 was elected to the Australian Trucking Associations Council as a Small Fleet Representative. Leigh convened the first meeting of the Dangerous Goods Subcommittee of Road Freight NSW and is the Chair. He continues to fund all these meetings and functions. Leigh was a Finalist in ATA’s “Outstanding Contribution to National Trucking Industry” and in 2016 was a Finalist in Road Freight NSW “Outstanding Contribution to NSW Trucking Industry”. Leigh was appointed as Ambassador for Truck Week 2016 at the ITTS and again held the most successful Truck Week event Australia wide.
Kimberlie Smart
Kimberlie has been employed by Formula Chemicals since 1999. In this time Kimberlie has made a significant contribution to the business within many sectors including Administration Management, Accounts Payable, Account Management, Marketing, Quality Systems and Production scheduling. Kimberlie adds further value to Formula Chemicals by strategically partnering the business with suppliers that meet our key supplier criteria of Quality, Supply & Cost. In her current role she works closely with a number of senior business functions along with the day to day responsibilities of Chief Financial Officer. Kimberlie and Leigh were finalists in the Australian Road Safety Awards in Melbourne for the 2017 Community Program Award 2017 and the 2017 School Programs Award. Further, in 2017 Kimberlie was a finalist in ‘Women in Industry Awards’ in two categories namely ‘Excellence in Manufacturing’ and ‘Safety Advocacy Award’.

Lisa Dolan
HR Advisor
Lisa joined Formula Chemicals in 2016 and progressed to Human Resources Manager in 2017. Lisa is a key component part of the Management Team and implementing safe working practices within our Organisation. She organises and educates staff member in all aspects of Health and Safety and any training they may undertake including Forklifts, Confined Spaces, First Aid and NHVAS BFM, Mass and Maintenance. Lisa implements the Formula Chemicals (NSW) Pty Ltd Policy and Procedure Handbook and provides Performance Management and support to all members of the team. Lisa is a key contact and organiser in the recruitment process, redundancies and terminations. Before joining Formula Chemicals, Lisa qualified in a Second Class Honours Upper Division (LLB Hons) Law with Criminology from Ulster University, Belfast in 2010. Lisa also completed a Master of Science with commendation in Human Resource Management, accredited by CIPD, Queens University, Belfast 2013.
Martin Atua
Transport Manager/Production Manager
Martin started with Formula in 2015 as a valued member of our transport team. Continuing with Martin’s career development in 2017, Martin was promoted to Production Manager overseeing our Chlor Alkali production and becoming our Transport Manager. Martin organises deliveries for our Formula Chemicals fleet including our new Omni Tanker, four flat-tray trucks as well as maintaining seven Clark forklifts, delivery utes and vans. On a day to day basis, Martin is heavily involved in all aspects of the trucks, from Load Restraint to organising Sydney metro and country trips for the truck drivers. Martin has a key role in the Chain of Responsibility and is instrumental in educating and explaining the importance of the Chain of Responsibility in Formula Chemicals to everyone involved including truck drivers and other staff memebers. Martin is an integral part of the Management Team and key to implementing safe working practices within our Organisation. Martin is certified in all NHVAS modules including BFM, Mass and Maintenance. He also has certification in OHS, Load Restraint and Chain of Responsibility.
Shane McLoughlin
Chemical Plant Operator
Shane joined Formula Chemicals in 2016 as a valued member of our chlor alkali production team. Continuing on Shane’s career development in 2017, Shane was promoted to Production Manager overseeing day to day duties include Production Scheduling and Planning and liaising with our major accounts. Shane is responsible for the toll blending of our major accounts including BP, Castrol and ED Oates. Shane measures stock control continuously and oversees the Quality of manufacturing and is responsible for a number of the colleagues within his department ensuring they are compiling with all regulations in relation to working on a Dangerous Goods site and educating on the new regulations with regard to Chain of Responsibility. Shane is an integral part of the Management Team and implementing safe working practices within our Organisation. Shane is currently studying a Diploma in Leadership and Management at Australian Pacific College.

Michael joined Formula Chemicals in 2012 to head our equipment division Michael brings a wealth of knowledge from his background in Electrical Engineering. Michael has designed and implemented our filling equipment, solar panels, LED lighting, while developing custom solutions for our clients.
Ian Lyons
Maintenance Manager
Ian joined Formula Chemicals in 2000 as a contractor to oversee a number of expansion projects. He then became an full time employee in 2005 with a focus on optimizing production processes, construction and capitol expenditure projects. To ensure projects are delivered within specification, budget & time constraints are met.

This team of professional Senior Managers have a wealth of experience in the chemical industry. With its well qualified and highly experienced key personnel and its speedy response capability Formula can service the technical and business needs of its customers in a timely, cost effective manner and can assist its customers in attaining their own accreditation. During his employment with Formula, Leigh Smart received recognition by the Australian Government and was approved as a Research Leader under the Industrial Research and Development Grant Scheme, which lasted for a period of 5 years. Product development is managed by  Rita Sellars. Larger projects involve outside resources, including the Australian universities, overseas specialty chemical company affiliates, Australian and overseas food manufacturing plant suppliers and Australian and overseas raw material suppliers.Formula also provides an Audit / Inspection Service for Food and Dairy manufacturing plants to ensure continuous quality and hygiene of both product and equipment and also economical use of chemicals. Formula’s products meet DS1 specifications and AQIS requirements where applicable.
